Skredhaugen Opens for the Season

On Sunday, 21 June at 4:00 p.m., we invite you to a concert with fiddler Johanna Mjeldheim and the opening of this summer’s two art exhibitions. The café will be open, serving coffee and cakes.

Concert

As part of the opening programme, there will be a concert by fiddler Johanna Mjeldheim. She is the municipal folk musician and a teacher at the Ullensvang School of Music and Arts, where she teaches the Hardanger fiddle. She holds degrees in folk music from Telemark University College and the Ole Bull Academy and has specialised in the Hardanger fiddle tradition of Hardanger.

Exhibitions

Traces of Time – Maren Sofie Strømme

In Nilsastova, the exhibition Traces of Time by Maren Sofie Strømme will open. She has been painting for more than 35 years and has held numerous exhibitions throughout Norway. She has participated in the Ljosanótt Art Festival in Iceland, most recently in September 2024, and was a guest exhibitor at Art67 Gallery in Reykjavík in 2023.

Her preferred media include acrylic paint, acrylic ink, and various textural materials. She uses a range of techniques to create contrasts between colour, texture, and patina. Depth is achieved through layers of transparent shades. The artist is particularly interested in capturing the atmosphere of the seasons through striking contrasts, colour play, light, and mood.

She has long been fascinated by the way the seasons and weather leave their mark on nature and historic buildings. Through her paintings, she seeks to transfer these impressions onto the canvas, creating a weathered and aged appearance that gives the works a distinctive and evocative character.

BEE Hardanger Artists’ Collective

In Glasbua, an exhibition by the BEE Hardanger Artists’ Collective will open. The collective was founded on 19 March 2021 by Britt-Helen Stuholm, Eli T. Utne Lillevik, and Eldbjørg Stenberg. The name BEE comes from the initials of the founders’ first names.

The association serves as a meeting place for people with diverse interests in art and culture. It offers an accessible and inclusive environment with regular gatherings, art and culture courses, member excursions, and exhibitions in the local area.

The members work across a wide range of artistic disciplines, including mixed media, acrylic and watercolour painting, oil painting, textile art, photography, glass painting, drawing, digital art, and woodwork.
